About the Biz

Town Bizness exists to bring the necessities of a dignified human life to people who are unhoused in Oakland, CA.

That includes good food, shelter, clothing, toiletries, bedding, and basic comforts that make life on the street more bearable, like a safe stove or a radio. Over time, we help people stabilize and connect to services and housing.

The Power of Love

Every human being deserves respect, dignity, and humanity. We treat our houseless family with loving kindness and take the time to get to know them and build trust.

We bring food/hygiene bags and fresh meals to our “regulars” every week. You cannot approach people who have been lied to and dehumanized with nothing but a sign-up sheet and a pen. We start by showing up consistently, with no strings attached. Over time, often months or longer, when the folks we work with are ready to pursue housing, benefits, or treatment, we help them get signed up and access support. This relationship-first approach works. We’re able to help many of the people we serve get housed and stay housed.

Town Bizness was founded by Signe Nielsen, whose own experience of houselessness and recovery shaped the way this work is done: with patience, care, and a deep commitment to seeing people as full human beings.
